Mud Pump Drive Spewing Metal Shavings at Remote Well Pad

Hi everyone,

our drill site mud pump drive started throwing heavy metal shavings into the oil filtration unit during midnight operations. We pulled the inspection hatch, expecting a simple seal replacement, but found severe pitting on the helical gear teeth instead.

Operating in extreme weather conditions is making temperature regulation a nightmare, and the gear casing is running scorching hot under continuous pumping pressure.

Should we attempt an on-site gear tooth dressing, or do we need specialized heavy-duty oilfield gearbox solutions to keep this rig operational without risking a complete engine lockup? Any insights from field engineers?
